Karsten Schmidtはイギリスに拠点を置いて活躍するコンピューテーショナルデザイナー。Karsten Schmidtの作品はコードから作られ、ジェネレイティブで動的なものがそのほとんどを締める。中には映像作品もあるが、その映像自体もプログラムが生成したもの。
最近ではonedotzeroのVIとそのVIを使ったインタラクティブインスタレーションを制作している。

この作品は手元の携帯端末Nokia N900で操作でき、大画面のVIをグリグリ動かす事が出来る。
Karsten Schmidtは以前紹介したUniversal Everythingのプロジェクトにも多く参加しており、V&Aに展示された「Forever」や、「Audi TT Movement」なども制作はKarsten Schmidtが担当している。

また、Karsten Schmidtは別名義であるtoxiの名前で、Processing界にも大きな影響を与え続けている。自身がプロジェクトで実際に使用しているコードはフリーで公開されており誰でも自由に使う事が出来る。そのコードをまとめたライブラリ、toxiclibsを使った作品をまとめたリールがこちら。
